THE Golden Girls tour, starring Yorkshire soprano Lesley Garrett, musical theatre star Maria Friedman and actress Bonnie Langford, has been cancelled.

They were booked to play York Barbican on January 24 and Scarborough Spa Grand Hall the following night, but after the November 30 release of their Golden Girls album was shelved, the tour went the same way.

Garrett, Friedman and Langford had hand-picked the repertoire to "capture their timeless vocals and infectious personalities in a complete soundtrack to their lives".

"Each track is a celebration of their journey as women: the nostalgia, the joy, the highs, the lows, and the excitement for what is still to come," said their record company, Decca, last year.

Promoters Cuffe and Taylor and Decca released a joint statement to explain the decision. "We are extremely sorry to announce the cancellation of The Golden Girls tour starring Maria Friedman, Lesley Garrett and Bonnie Langford scheduled for early 2019. Without the scheduled TV and PR activity surrounding the album campaign, we have had no choice but to take the difficult decision to cancel the tour."

York ticket refunds are available on 0844 854 2757 or in person from the Barbican box office; Scarborough refunds, 01723 821888.
