A WOMAN lost six stone after being warned by doctors she could need a liver transplant.

Izzie East was 21 when her GP told her she had suspected polycystic ovary syndrome and was diagnosed with a fatty liver.

She said: “The doctor told me ‘if you are to carry on with your bad eating habits you will soon need a liver transplant’. At the age of 21 I was scared that my fertility was at risk for the future and there was no way I wanted a liver transplant or the complications that came with a fatty liver.

“The GP offered me to refer me to an eating clinic and I felt so ashamed and embarrassed that I declined it. The GP also weighed me, did my BMI which came back obese and this scared me. Never did I ever think I was obese.”

Izzie, now 24, from Malton, has dropped from a size 18 to between an eight and a ten, and said another factor in her decision to lose weight came after two holidays in 2016.

She said: “I went on two holidays abroad, Disneyland Paris and Majorca. On both flights I felt very uncomfortable in the plane seat, the seatbelt just about clicked shut and I was very squished.

“On both holidays I was so conscious with my photos being taken and my feet swelled up so much in my sandals I spent half the time sitting down or refusing to go out. In Disneyland it was very much a squeeze to get on the rides and some of them I couldn’t go on because I was too big. In Majorca I refused to sit on the beach or go in the pool because I didn’t want people staring at me. This made me so anxious and upset that I didn’t enjoy either holiday.”

Izzie said she had managed to lose the weight through joining Slimming World, and said her daily diet - which used to consist of “four slices of toast with a huge amount of Nutella”, sausage rolls, crisps, chocolate, takeaways, family sharing deserts and wine - has been replaced with measured amounts of low sugar cereal with blueberries and raspberries, chicken salads, fruit, homemade spaghetti bolognaise, yoghurt and fruit.

She has also increased her exercise from nothing to “hula hooping 30 minutes every other day”, running 10K every other day, and walking 10,000 steps a day.
