THREE wards at York Hospital have been closed to visitors.

An outbreak of norovirus has led to the closure of two wards - wards 28 and 37, while ward 36 has been closed due to patients suffering from flu.

The hospital has urged people with friends or relatives on these wards not to visit to help to contain the problem. The news follows reports at the weeeknd that two wards had to close.

A spokesman for the hospital said: "It is important that we limit the spread of infection by following Infection Prevention advice.

"Please do not visit if the ward is closed due to diarrhoea and/or vomiting only essential visits will be permitted.Visitors who are concerned should speak to a member of staff with any questions."
