IT had been suggested by City of York Council that they were going to look into problems created by the trees in Parliament Street – mainly the rise and fall of paving stones and the associated trip hazards caused by the ever expanding root balls of the London plane trees.

These have a potential unchecked height of 30 to 40 metres and a huge rootball.

I notice that now tree surgeons have started to trim the trees back – ie to pollard them. Does this mean that there are now no longer plans in the foreseeable to deal with the paving stones and associated trip hazard?

You can see the damage above ground. I often wonder what damage the roots are doing to the services, water/ electric and drainage system below ground level. I suppose only time will tell?
