A WOMAN had to be cut free from a car following a crash.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews to the A1079 near Dunnington at about 10.10am on Saturday, where a silver car and a black 4x4 had collided.

The road was closed for more than an hour as crews from Huntington and York cut the roof from the silver car to free the woman, who was the driver of the vehicle and suffered chest injuries in the crash.

A spokeswoman for the Fire Service said crews made the scene safe and left the woman in care of paramedics, who took her to hospital. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The road reopened at about 11.10am.
