LOUIS Moore looks like any other healthy seven-year-old, full of energy and rosy cheeked.

But his mother revealed today that he owes his life and health to heart surgeons who operated on him both when he was a baby and in 2017.

The Kirk Hammerton CE Primary School pupil, from Marton Cum Grafton, near Boroughbridge, was born with a hole in his heart, and clinicians discovered he also had a life-threatening condition called Coarctation of the Aorta - a narrowing of the large artery that carries oxygen-rich blood from the left ventricle to the body.

He had open heart surgery at 10 weeks old at the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit to repair his artery, and lived with the hole in his heart until undergoing more surgery to repair it in 2017.

Now his health is transformed and his mother Lisa has spoken out to show her support for Wear Red Day on February 1, which raises money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.

She said: “Louis is now seven and the transformation is amazing to see. He has so much more energy, he doesn’t feel the cold and the best part is the colour in his cheeks!

“He will continue to be closely monitored as he grows but the prognosis is good.”

She said many families who had children with such illnesses worked really hard to raise money as they were eternally grateful, adding: “We would love to see more people take part in Wear Red Day 2019 as it is really easy and fun.”

A fund spokesman said hundreds of schools -including Louis’s - businesses and individuals took part and people could register to join in at chsf.org.uk/events and receive a fundraising pack, or donate by texting WEAR19 followed by £1, £2, £3, £5 or £10 to 70070. He said the fund had provided millions for medical equipment, facilities and research.
