A WOMAN described the moment she chose to drive when three times the drink drive limit as “the worst decision I ever made.”

Abigail Brogan was swerving across the carriageway and went through a red light as she drove along Shipton Road at 2am on December 10, said Jessica Lister, prosecuting.

A breath test gave a reading of 102 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35.

Forty-four-year-old Brogan, of Rosecroft Way, Rawcliffe, pleaded guilty to drink driving, which was her first criminal conviction.

York magistrates banned her from driving for two years and imposed a 12-month community order with a six-week nightly curfew between 10pm and 7am and 20 days’ rehabilitative activities.

She was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs.

Brogan represented herself and told York magistrates: “It was the worst decision I have ever made.

“I only live three blocks down the road.

"I didn’t have a parking permit for the space where I was, so I got into the car and drove.

"I am highly embarrassed.”

Through a probation officer, the court heard Brogan had problems in her personal life that may have affected her mental health.

Miss Lister said police were driving along Shipton Road when they came up behind Brogan’s car.

She was driving at 15 mph in a 30 mph zone, swerving from the near side kerb towards and over the white line and went through at least one red light.

Concerned about her standard of driving they pulled her over and gave her a breath test, the court was told.
