YORK’S Festival of the Rivers is set to get £20,000 of funding to create a five-day “vibrant, inclusive, community-enhancing” event.
The funding, which comes from the Leeds City Region Business Rates Pool, will be used to pay for staff and publicity for the festival as well as infrastructure and programming.
A council report says the aim of the event is to encourage people to use the riversides positively and the money will help keep the festival free of charge.
And organisers would collaborate with other groups to get more people involved in the event.
Councillors speaking at a meeting in November said the River Ouse and River Foss could play key roles in a new cultural strategy for the city.
Residents called for the rivers to be made into more of a feature of the city as part of a consultation on York’s cultural future.
