A CHARITY in York is launching an event to help children and young people keep fit and raise money.

Martin House Hospice Care, in Acomb, is inviting people to take part in Miles for Smiles, which asks young people to complete a marathon throughout March to raise money for the charity that cares for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

Events organiser, Ellie Barker, said individuals can walk, run, swim or cycle their way to 26 miles.

She said:“This is your marathon, your way, whether you’re already a keen runner, walker, cyclist or swimmer, or you’re interested in taking up a new activity for the New Year.

“Miles for Smiles allows you to complete the challenge in your own time, whether that’s going for a walk on your lunchbreak, or heading out for a bike ride with the family at weekends.”

The event is free to register for however, participants are asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. Visit www.martinhouse.org.uk/milesforsmiles
