THE motorbike merriment continues for one family in York after a woman passed her test as a surprise for her mum 16 years after her mother passed her own test on two-wheels.

Liv Oldfield, 25, from Acomb surprised her mum, Julie Oldfield, by completing her motorbike test earlier this month.

The Press first reported on the Oldfields love for motorcycles back in 2003 when Julie passed her test to prove to her family that she could do it.

Liv decided that she wanted to pass her test to help carry on the tradition and undertake a new hobby.

She said: “I had just come out of an eight year relationship and felt as though this would be an ideal time to do something new.

“ My mum had always told me about her motorbike days and I thought it would be a nice surprise.

“Hopefully one day we can go riding together.”

Liv added that it was very difficult to keep her motorcycle a secret from her family.

She said: “It was hard to keep it as a surprise. I had to throw her off the scent at one point when she became suspicious.

“I made up several excuses when I went out for my lessons including that

I was going to revision lessons or out for lunch with friends when really I was attending theory and practical lessons.”

Liv said the course took about six months to complete.

She also said that not everyone was as impressed with her accomplishment.

Liv’s grandmother, Jess Sharrock, said that seeing her granddaughter race around on her motorcycle would ‘worry her’ and ‘give her grey hairs’.

Liv added that her recent accomplishment had prompted her mum to consider purchasing a motorcycle once again.
