A MOTHER has been ordered to pay £229 after she was convicted for the second time of failing to send her 15-year-old son to school.
Victoria Waudby, prosecuting, said the boy missed one day out of every three for two months.
Attempts by the school to get him into class including pastoral support, helping him with his education and repeat visits by school staff to his home had failed.
In 2017, the mother had admitted failure to send the same child to school regularly.
The mother, of east York, told the court: “I plan to escort him (to school).”
She pleaded guilty to failure to ensure her child attended school and was fined £114 with £85 prosecution costs and a £30 statutory surcharge. She is not being identified to protect the child.
For her, Adam Henry said her son had difficulty learning and was under stress because his GCSEs were approaching.
“It could explain his reluctance to attend school,” he said.
The mother was preoccupied dealing with problems involving other family members.
