DOZENS of people came together to celebrate the 100th birthday of a "lovely gentleman".
Family and friends gathered at the Wenlock Arms, in Wheldrake, on Sunday afternoon to wish Richard Braithwaite a happy birthday.
Richard has lived in Dunnington since 1981.
Neighbour June Rickell, who has known him since she moved to Duntington in 1991, said more than 50 people came to wish Richard a happy birthday.
She said: “His niece had helped him plan the party in the weeks coming up to his birthday.
“It's testament to his wonderful personality that at age 100, over 50 people came to celebrate his birthday with him.
"The pub put on a lovely carvery for everybody and Richard enjoyed the party.
“He is such a lovely man and is as bright as a button.
“He enjoys being taken out for meals, going to meetings and most of all visiting his wife who is now in a home in Wheldrake.
“He is the most interesting gentleman, who is always up for a conversation with people young and old. I have known him for almost 30 years and I couldn’t think of a nicer neighbour.”
