POLICE are appealing for help in identifying a man they want to speak to after an engagement ring worth more than £6,000 was stolen from a jewellers in York.
The theft happened at around 4.30pm on Saturday, December 15. A man is said to have entered Goldsmiths Jewellers in Spurriergate and asked to look at engagement rings before leaving the store without paying for one priced at £6,750.
North Yorkshire Police said the man was 6ft tall and spoke with a Merseyside accent.
In a statement the force said: "Anyone who recognises the man officers would like to speak to or who has any other information about this incident is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, selecting option two and asking for Harriet Shillito or by emailing harriet.shillito@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
"If you wish to remain anonymous, you can pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
"Please quote reference 12180232941 when providing information."
