POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in York earlier today.
The incident occurred at around 12.40am this morning on Coney Street. The woman, in her 30s, suffered a minor head injury as a result of the assault and was taken to hospital for treatment.
North Yorkshire Police said that an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody at this time.
In a statement the force said: "Anyone who witnessed the assault or the events surrounding it is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police either by calling 101, selecting option 2 and asking for PC 783 Hardwick or by emailing Ashley.Hardwick@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
"Alternatively, if you wish to provide information anonymously, this can be done through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
"Please quote reference 12190009753 when providing information."
