Stephen Lewis wrote like a classical poet with his article regarding the battle to save our Askham Bog (The battle to protect ‘irreplaceable’ Askham Bog, January 11).

The increase in our population in one way or another has caused the hunger to create more housing. However, if this is at the cost of our heritage then caution must be our watchword.

It took tens of thousands of years to create our unique Askham Bog, yet it could be destroyed in a blink of a developer’s eye.

Profit must not be the driving force behind this venture and I hope the powers-that-be who ultimately decide upon this course of action will look deep into their children’s eyes before depriving them of this heritage.

Climate change is a stark fact and we appear to be part of this unfolding catastrophe.

Playing poker with the devil is not a wise game-play.

Green, in whatever form it takes, creates our life-giving oxygen: concrete jungles do not.
