Whatever the result of the farcical Brexit proceedings, two aspects stand out; first, 17 million voters wish to leave the EU - no ifs and buts, just leave and regain our sovereignty.

Secondly, our political class are appalled at the thought of sovereignty. Not only are they incapable of running the country, but they have clearly shown that they actually do not want to.

While the 17 million genie is unlikely to return to the bottle, the politicians can be changed and may well have to work harder in future to convince the electorate of their worth.

Brexit panic buying is utterly ridiculous

I find it utterly ridiculous that people are panic buying because of Brexit.

What on earth did we do before the ‘common market’, now known as the EU?

We have our own livestock, our own vegetables and our own grain, plus - let’s hope -our own common sense.

Get a life you people.

We have managed two world wars and, God forbid, if there should be a third we would manage again.

We import and export our goods - things will not change there, as we need commodities from other countries just as they need from us.

So let’s have less scaremongering and more positivity in our country.

Politicians are not up to dealing with EU

IN a hostage situation, you wouldn’t send in a politician, you would send in a trained negotiator.

You would do the same in a situation where someone was threatening to commit suicide.

When talks start again with the EU, we must not lead with politicians and civil servants because they have no experience in such matters - especially Theresa May who is now totally damaged goods.

The negotiators must be committed Brexiteers. The renowned businessmen Digby Jones and Tim Martin would be ideal for this vital task.

Politicians must be honest and admit they are not up to the job when dealing with Brussels.

We must definitely let Barnier et al know that we are leaving the EU on March 29, but apart from that there is a blank piece of paper to be filled with agreed matters.

I sincerely believe that if we return the EU’s hardball with equal determination, their self interest will mean their current intransigence will soon mellow.

PM’s approach has come back to bite her

Theresa May’s determination to push her own deal rather than listen to her fellow Conservatives’ views has come back to bite her.

The thing that destroyed her deal was the backstop, which would have tied us to the EU for years to come.

I do feel that the EU are determined to not let us leave on any terms and will put up barriers whatever the Government comes up with.

Parliament does not like the ‘no deal plan’ but we would be billions of pounds better off and the difficulty with deliveries of goods and medicines could be overcome with a bit of ‘out of the box’ thinking and determination.

There is a lot of nefarious behind-the-scenes planning to scupper any deal.

A few determined Remainers have financial reasons to do so and they do not care what the public want.

They are pressing for a second referendum, which they are sure they will win.

This is undemocratic. And what if this vote also turns out to be in favour of Leave? Are they going to keep going for further referenda until they get the results they want?

Longing for return to Tudor times

What a shame we no longer live in Tudor times.

Dominic Greave, Anna Soubry, Hillary Benn and Speaker Bercow, together with other high-minded holier-than-thou hypocritical saboteurs, would now be residing in the Tower of London, never again to see the light of day.
