A MAIN road near York which was closed by a crash during the afternoon rush hour reopened at about 6pm.

North Yorkshire Police said the A1079 was closed between Kexby and Common Lane, Dunnington, after a collision between a Mini and a lorry at 4.15pm.

A force spokeswoman said there were no serious injuries but there was debris and also leakages on the road which had to be cleared, and the vehicles which also needed to be recovered, before the road could re-open.

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes while the emergency services deal with the incidents.

Police tweeted this evening that while the A1079 had reopened, movement was very slow due to the build up of traffic.
