EVERYMAN is to operate a new four-screen cinema in Northallerton.
The company, which already runs a cinema in York - the former Odeon and Reel cinema in Blossom Street - will be involved in the £17 million Treadmills development at the former Northallerton Prison, which closed in 2013.
The 11,000 sq ft picture house will be located above three new restaurant units which adjoin a new public square as the centrepiece of Treadmills, which is being delivered by the Central Northallerton Development Company (CNDC), a joint venture between Hambleton District Council and Yorkshire property developer Wykeland Group.
A spokesman for Everyman said it targeted audience members looking for a 'special night at the movies,' adding: "The company is known for its intimate and plush interiors and comfy couches.
"The rise of boutique operators such as Everyman is credited as one of the contributing factors in an impressive rise in cinema admission numbers.
"Last year, 176m British cinemagoers enjoyed a night at the movies – a number not seen for almost 50 years."
