NORTH Eastern blue comedian Roy "Chubby" Brown may not be everyone’s cup of tea, "but there are lots of different teas out there to try," he says, ahead of Saturday's York Barbican show.

His real name is Royston Vasey, in turn the place name the writers gave to the village in the darkly humorous television series The League Of Gentlemen. The team behind the cult show were such big fans of "Chubby" that they used his name as a tribute. In fact, they asked him to play the swearing mayor in some episodes.

Expect down-to-earth comedy from "Chubby", now 73. "I’ve never had stars in my eyes; I just like working and making people laugh," he says.

Anyone easily offended is advised to spend their Saturday night elsewhere. Tickets for the 7.30pm gig are on sale on 0844 854 2757, at yorkbarbican.co.uk or in person from the Barbican box office.
