A York-based national vets group is planning to expand into Europe as it moves to new headquarters.

Since its foundation in November 2015, VetPartners has grown to own 96 small animal, equine, mixed and farm animal veterinary practices as well as a veterinary nursing school laboratory, research dairy and locum agency.

Next month, with support from international investment company BC Partners, it will leave its current base in Holgate Park Drive, west York, to accommodation twice the size in Spitfire House, Aviator Court, Clifton Moor.

The group currently has 4,000 employees in more than 350 sites across the UK. Its headquarters provides support services including human resources, finance, IT, marketing and accounting

VetPartners chief executive officer Jo Malone said: “The funding from BC Partners has enabled and encouraged our expansion, and we are preparing for another exciting year of growth.

“As well as interest from UK veterinary practices in joining VetPartners, we have had enquiries from practice owners in Germany, France, Hungary and Ireland.

“VetPartners’ roots are in York and our new head office will provide the base for our ongoing expansion, while we will also be seeking a satellite office in France or Germany.”

Among local practices in the group are Minster Veterinary Practice, Minster Equine Veterinary Clinic and Tower Veterinary Group, Rainbow Equine Hospital and Malton Veterinary Group.

Tom Sykes of Helmsley Group, which arranged the Clifton Moor letting, said: "We believe this shows that York is an attractive option for large companies such as Vet Partners.

“Their commitment to York was evident throughout the whole negotiation period and we hope other local, regional and national companies follow suit.”

The Helmsley Group were advised by Langleys Solicitors.
