A WOMAN who stole four bottles of alcohol when she had enough money on her to pay for them has blamed her hormones.

Carol Ann Green, 50, told York magistrates she didn't know why she bypassed the tills at Marks and Spencers in the city centre after picking up three bottles of prosecco and one of vodka.

"I am very forgetful," she said. "I'm going through the menopause."

Green, of Sirocco Court, off Huntington Road, York, pleaded guilty to theft.

Magistrates gave her a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay a £20 statutory surcharge.

Martin Butterworth, prosecuting, said security staff stopped Green at 10.50am on December 3 and reclaimed the bottles.

The total price of the alcohol was £50.
