DETECTIVES have appealed to garages, body shops and mechanics for information after a hit and run left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.

North Yorkshire Police want to speak to anyone who has repaired a silver car with no rear bumper since Sunday, January 6, following a crash which left a motorcyclist seriously injured.

A spokesman said the biker was riding on the B1222 near Peckfield, Sherburn in Elmet, at about 4.40pm when the crash happened with a silver saloon car at the junction with the A63.

He said: "The car did not stop at the scene and officers are keen to trace the driver.

"Officers believe the car is a silver saloon, possibly a VW or a Skoda, and it suffered severe rear bumper damage as a result of the collision."

The motorcyclist, a man in his twenties, received serious injuries but has since been released from hospital.

Anyone who saw the crash or has information which could help police should phone 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 quoting job 320 of January 6.
