A CAR was destroyed by fire in North Yorkshire yesterday evening (January 8).

Fire crews from Boroughbridge, Thirsk and Ripon were called to the car fire on the A168 near Topcliffe at 7.05pm.

The road was closed while they dealt with the incident.

Crews put the fire out using four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera and foam.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The car suffered 100 per cent fire damage.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be due to an electrical fault."
