MORE than 80 people made and celebrated history and when they attended a hospital meeting at The Galtres Centre in Easingwold.

They were at the first ever Members’ Meeting under the new constitution of the Friends of St Monica’s Hospital.

They celebrated the 125th anniversary of the 12-bed community hospital with the launch of a commemorative booklet.

The hospital first took in patients in 1983.

The town’s MP Kevin Hollinrake was among those heard acting chairman Peter Glossop say how the new constitution will allow the Friends to spend funds on health and social care issues in the wider community, but the organisation’s trustees will continue to make the hospital their first priority.

He also gave details about improvements to the hospital overflow car park, the creation of policies on safeguarding volunteers and work on helping members be more informed about the organisation’s work including its website.

Secretary Martin Whillock reported on meetings between the trustees, local surgeries, the district nursing team and Easingwold Community Care Association.
