A CHEF is hoping his pork buns will make him the region’s number one school cook.

James Brown, of Queen Ethelburga’s School, is among the regional finalists in the Lead Association for Catering in Education School Chef of the Year competition.

On January 16 he and six other finalists will each have to complete a main meal and dessert suitable for four 11-year-olds at a maximum cost of £1.30 per person in 90 minutes.

James has opted to cook bao buns using pork from Easingwold pigs with stir fried celery and spinach sesame salad and a lime and chilli dip.

His dessert will be cucumber, lime and lemon cheesecake and blackberry compote.

The regional final will be held at Doncaster College and the winner will go on to compete against other winners elsewhere in the country for the national title.

The other regional finalists are from state and private schools in Skipton and elsewhere in Yorkshire and Humber.
