A WELL-KNOWN Selby bowler has celebrated his 100th birthday.
Ernie Williams has been a member of Selby Bowling Club for 30 years, and invited guests to celebrate his milestone at a party at the club on Saturday.
Born in Lancashire, he moved to Selby with his wife, Lucy, in the early 1980s, and loved and excelled in a variety of sporting activities.
A great-grandad, he bowled successfully at County level for the club teams, and was awarded life membership of the club in 2011.
Ernie, a Dunkirk veteran, served during the Second World War, and was a prisoner of war for 18 months in Germany.
He was joined at his party by a hundred friends and family members.
A club member said: "Ernie is a true gentleman and a very popular member of the club, which he visits almost every day."
