I struggled with Julian Sturdy’s sweet prose on the true value of solidarity (Events of 2018 reminded us of true value of solidarity, The Press, January 4).
His party has visited the greatest dismantling of social cohesion this country has seen for generations. In case it’s slipped Sturdy’s mind let’s recall a few recent Tory scandals.
The Government’s treatment of the Windrush generation immigrants who came to work and live in the UK following an invitation from the British government, only to be treated to ‘hostile’ laws supervised by Theresa May as Home Secretary.
Food banks. The chaos of Brexit; a Government simultaneously determined to crash out of the EU with no deal while warning us it’ll be a catastrophe.
A nation divided, families divided, stalemate in Parliament, troops on standby to quell civil unrest, the threat to food and medical supplies.
And the slow motion collapse of the NHS. My doctor explained to me two weeks ago that she could not treat the boil on my back because of cuts.
Instead she recommended a private clinic that charges £300 to £500 to do the job.
Today another NHS doctor similarly declined giving my daughter treatment for a different condition.
Value of solidarity? Sturdy’s Tories haven’t a clue.
