ONE of York's most historic roads will be closed to traffic for more than two months from next week.
City of York Council will close Fossgate, preventing vehicles from travelling or waiting in the road from Monday, January 14, until March 24, to allow reconstruction of the footpaths.
The council said there would be no alternative route for diverted traffic, but barriers and signs would be in place to make motorists aware.
The closure will not prohibit emergency access or access to premises, and businesses will remain open throughout.
Pedestrian access will also be maintained throughout the closure.
