A MISSING man who sparked an "urgent" nation-wide appeal by North Yorkshire Police has been found safe and well.

Brendon Carrier, 24, was reported missing from the area of Wetherby Services on the A1 at around 11pm on Friday, December 14.

North Yorkshire Police issued an appeal on Saturday, saying it had "serious concerns" for his welfare as he left without his medication, he was only wearing a shirt and jeans and he had no means to pay for accommodation.

However, North Yorkshire Police this morning (Sunday) confirmed Mr Carrier had been found.

A spokesperson said: "Following inquiries and a search supported by the Coastguard, Mr Carrier was located safe and well on the A171 near Whitby at 1.30am on Sunday.

"He has been transported back to Hull.

"We are grateful to the media and members of the public who supported  the appeal. Thank you."
