LONG-SUFFERING residents in a York suburb should finally be able to enjoy a summer free from foul smells after a £340,000 investment in odour treatment technology at a sewage works.

Rawcliffe and Clifton Without Conservative councillor Stuart Rawlings says Rawcliffe residents have endured ‘terrible smells’ from Yorkshire Water’s local waste water treatment works, especially in warmer weather.

He said he and fellow councillors Sam Lisle and Peter Dew had worked with the company to secure a new action plan to address the problems, and new technology would clean the air from the treatment process before it is released into the atmosphere.

He said: “This has been an horrendous problem for Rawcliffe, especially in the warmer months, and I’m pleased to say that Yorkshire Water have committed to completing the investment programme by May 2019, which will finally give long suffering residents a smell-free summer.”
