EMERGENCY services have been at the scene of a road accident in Heworth, York.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called and landed at Glen Gardens at about 11am, while police cordoned off nearby streets.

A resident from First Avenue, Michele Andrew, said: "I think it was an RTA. There's been a lot of police activity and they have closed off the side streets.

"The air ambulance came in about 20 minutes ago, at 11am. I spoke to the pilot to thank them for their work, and they said they had come from Nostell Priory.

"I was just going for the bus and could see the helicopter circling before it landed in Glen Gardens."

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said they were called to East Parade at 10:45am to reports of a collision between a female pedestrian and a car.

Road closures are in place on all four sides of the roundabout at the end of East Parade.

It is not clear how long these will be in place. The spokesman said the severity of the casualty's injuries could not yet be confirmed but they were not believed to be life-threatening.

Coastliner buses are being diverted while the road closures are in place.
