THE Snowman is to visit a York department store this weekend as he celebrates his 40th anniversary - but he no longer looks set to see real snow falling in the city.
The iconic figure, who first featured in Raymond Briggs’ book without words in 1978, will be visiting Fenwick's in the Coppergate Centre between 11am and 4pm on Saturday.
He will be found in the toy department on the lower ground floor but, weather permitting, he will also venture out into the square to meet visitors to the centre,
Forecasters originally expected light snow in York on Saturday morning but are now forecasting only sleet.
