THE Howl & The Hum, winners of the Best Live Performance prize in the 2018 York Culture Awards, headline Friday's annual All Star Boss Caine Fibbers Festive Fundraiser.

Playing too at Fibbers, in York, will be The Boss Caine Big Band; York punks…And The Hangnails; former Hijak Oscar frontman Tim Fox’s new rebel-rousing combo Triangle Triangle Triangle and opening act Bella, Polly & The Magpies, York's Celtic folk and bluegrass trio of guitarist Bella Gaffney, mandolin player Polly Bolton and fiddler Holly Brandon.

"Having played hugely successful, and largely sold out, shows all over the UK in 2018; blown minds at festivals throughout the summer; been playlisted on BBC Radio 1; notched up several million streams on Spotify, and been raved about left, right and centre by all who have witnessed them, The Howl & The Hum are already on the lips and in the hearts of all the cool kids," says Fibbers boss Tim Hornsby.

"They're a miserable disco writing Bond themes for films where Jimmy is still hung up on that girl, as their songs combine dark hypnotic pop with post-punk, pierced with lyrics that make you call your mum the next morning."

As for The Boss Caine Big Band, Mr H says: "Well, we’ve banging on about them since dinosaurs roamed the Earth and, for the uninitiated, what you're missing is a unique blend of Americana, scored heavily with soul, bluegrass, country, folk, punk, blues, rock'n'roll roll and more.

"They're the musical vehicle of award-winning, permanently gigging, hard-living, Sundown Sessions-curating, Busk @ Dusk-hosting, genre-blending, gravelly baritone-singing, troubadouring Yorkshire cowboy songwriter Daniel Lucas." Expect to hear songs from this year's Loved By Trouble, Troubled By Love long player.

"As usual, everybody is giving their services for free," says Mr H. "This year it’s for Kitchen For Everyone York, who provide free meals for homeless and breadline families in the York area, and We Shall Overcome.

"Donations of tinned/packeted food; clothing, especially jackets and socks; bedding (sleeping bags, blankets, tents etc) and cash on the night are all gladly received. Just bring them down and we’ll make sure they’re safe."

Tickets cost £5 at fibbers.co.uk or £7 on the door from 7pm.
