A MURAL with the autographs of more than 20 famous jockeys has raised £500 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The autographs were collected by Malcolm Dowson, a raceday staff supervisor at York Racecourse, during the Yorkshire Summer Festival of Racing.

A saddle cloth donated by York Racecourse was left in the weighing room and jockeys were invited to sign it.

Malcolm, who is Sherburn-in-Elmet representative for the air ambulance charity, said: "There was a fantastic response from the jockeys, including Frankie Detorri and other world famous riders, to support this worthwhile charity."

Besides the autographs, the mural has photographs of winners during the festival, and is 30" by 20", was framed by Malcolm, who is a retired auctioneer, and put up for bids.

Within an hour of the saddle cloth being put up for sale, the winning bid of £500 was chosen as a reasonable price for a unique piece.

He said: "I would like to thank the jockeys and the racecourse for allowing me to collect the signatures and also the donation of the saddle cloth."
