Chief reporter Mike Laycock’s conscience-pricking article regarding the withdrawal of a motability car from disabled man Stephen Scott caused me to hold my breath in disbelief (Disabled man told ‘you don’t need car’, December 10).

What society have we sunk to when the disabled have to carry a begging bowl to the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) payment mandarins in government?

Ever since PIP was introduced it has caused heart-rending turmoil to many disabled people trying to make ends meet.

As a disabled person myself I too know what PIP nightmares gave to me in just trying to survive in this high-priced world of today.

What beggars belief of course is the eye-watering bonuses that company directors can command, such as the Motability CEO who allegedly awarded £2 million.

We now have a medieval world where the rich and poor are so far apart in monetary terms that each live in different worlds. That cannot be a sign of a Britain in harmony with itself.
