Enough Tory MPs have requested a vote of confidence in Theresa May to trigger a contest, the chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee Sir Graham Brady announces.

A vote on Theresa May's leadership will take place on Wednesday evening with result announced shortly after.

Theresa May says she will contest the leadership challenge “with everything I’ve got”.

Mrs May says changing Conservative leader would “put our country’s future at risk and create uncertainty when we can least afford it” and could lead to Brexit being delayed or prevented.

North Dorset MP Simon Hoare has already pledged his support for Theresa May. And he had this to say earlier this morning.

Mid Dorset and North Poole MP Michael Tomlinson said he did not send a letter to the 1922 Committee 'because it was not required'.

The Daily Echo has contacted all Dorset MPs for comment.

Speaking to the Echo on Monday, MP for Bournemouth West, Conor Burns, said it was more important at this stage to change the policy rather than the leader.

Mr Burns is the closest parliamentary aid to Boris Johnson.
