Commuters endured long delays on the York Outer Ring Road and Fulford Road this evening rush hour because of a crash near Copmanthorpe.

Traffic jams built up westbound on the dual carriageway stretch of the ring road from the scene of the crash between Bilborough and Copmanthorpe back as far as the Grimston Bar junction, on the southbound lane of A1237 between the Wetherby B1224 roundabout and the A1237/A64 Copmanthorpe junction, and on the eastbound carriageway of the A64 between the crash scene back to Tadcaster.

Fulford Road was also heavily congested with traffic jams north and south of the A19/A64 McArthur Glen interchange as motorists tried to avoid the other traffic jams or were unable to get onto the Outer Ring Road.

The problems began around 4pm and the queues did not clear until the end of the rush hour.
