A WOMAN faces a driving ban after she was convicted twice in her absence of the same motoring related offence.

Police have tried and failed to get Rachael Hampshaw to tell them who was driving the car they suspected was speeding on the A64 near Heslington on October 21, 2017.

She successfully persuaded magistrates to reopen her case after she was convicted in her absence last March of failure to provide information to the police.

Then she didn’t attend the date for her retrial and was again convicted in her absence.

Her case was adjourned until January 8 because she must now receive a minimum of six penalty points and already has six points for a similar offence committed in 2016.

That will give her 12 penalty points and would mean magistrates have to disqualify her for at least six months unless she can persuade them there are exceptional reasons they should not do so.

Hampshaw, 34, of Balk Close, Leven, Beverley, had denied failure to provide information to the police at an earlier hearing.

York magistrates heard she is the registered keeper of the car allegedly doing more than 70 mph on the A64.

Police sent an official form requiring details of its driver to her address as on the car’s DVLA record.

They didn’t get a reply to it or a reminder sent to the same address, so they summonsed her to court.
