A MAN has been charged with dangerous driving and drink driving after a police chase on the A64.

North Yorkshire Police were called to a crash in roadworks between Malton and York just before midnight on Monday, where the driver had fled the scene after hitting a works vehicle.

A spokesman said: "Officers from North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group located the vehicle a short time later, and a stinger was deployed on the A64 near the Hopgrove Roundabout to bring it safely to a stop."

A 42-year-old man was arrested and has now been charged with drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to report an accident.

He is due to appear at York Magistrates Court in January.
