FULFORD Scout Group has fitted a new floor thanks to funding awarded from the local councillor’s ward budget.

The previous worn and damaged floor of the Scout Group’s hall presented hazards to members of the group, but the group successfully applied for just under £1,000 from the local Ward Committee, which was used to replace the floor and install a new soft play area.

Cllr Keith Aspden, Liberal Democrat councillor for Fulford and Heslington, said: "I am delighted that local ward funding has been able to help the Fulford Scout Group and fit a new soft play area to replace their damaged floor. It is important that ward funding is used to benefit a variety of groups in the community and I am happy that we have been able to help the Scouts on this occasion.

"This is a good example of how a relatively small amount of ward funding can be used to help improve an area. If other residents in Fulford or Heslington have ideas on how funding can be best spent on community projects, then I would encourage them to get in contact with me."

Chris King, a Fulford Scout Group leader, said: "Fulford Scout Hut has two rooms which are used for a range of activities. The room at the back was looking very tired and outdated and thanks to a successful Ward Grant Bid we have been able to update and improve this softplay room. The Scout building is used by Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Other groups who make us of the facilities are a Brownie Pack, an after- school club as well as the self- help group MIND."
