YORK’S Annual Community Carol Concert at York Barbican on December 16 has nearly sold out with only a handful of tickets remaining for this ever-popular festive event.

“The organisers are absolutely delighted with the public response but are mindful of the fact the concert had a 15-minute delayed start last year because of late-comers, having problems with car parking and the city-centre roads being busy,” says committee member Graham Bradbury.

“It’s one of the busiest weekends in York with the St Nicholas Fair and only one weekend to go till Christmas. Those attending the concert are encouraged to make arrangements to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion and busy car parks.

“Although the concert starts at 2.30pm, there will be access to the York Barbican from 1.30pm with the auditorium doors opening from 2pm. Seasonal refreshments will be available at the venue.”

More than 200 young people will be appearing on stage on Sunday with representatives from York Light Youth Choir, Shepherd Group Youth Band, All Saints RC School Combined Choir and Hempland Primary Academy’s “Hempland Starling”.

Steve Cassidy will lead the ensemble with a Christmas medley, while musical director Mike Pratt will be conducting the Community Carols.

The afternoon will be hosted by the Reverend Andrew Foster and BBC Radio York presenter Adam Tomlinson.

“Hurry along to the Barbican box office to snatch up those remaining seats – but don’t leave it too long – and please don’t turn up late,” advises Graham.

The remaining tickets are on sale on 0844 854 2757, at yorkbarbican.co.uk or in person from the Barbican box office.
