A PERSON has died after being hit by a train on the York-Scarborough line near Scampston.
British Transport Police (BTP) was called to the scene at around 11am this morning (Friday).
A BTP spokesperson said: "A person has sadly now been pronounced dead. Officers are working to identify them and inform their family.
"It’s not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
TransPennine Express tweeted to say that lines were blocked and that delays and cancellations were expected until 1.30pm.
Road transport was being arranged between York and Scarborough in both directions.
North Yorkshire Police closed the B1258 between Yedingham and West Knapton in connection with the incident, and advised motorists to use alternative routes.
