A CAR has driven into a hedge outside Elvington Primary School.

In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said: "We received a report at 7.42am today that a car had driven into a ditch on Dauby Lane, Elvington."

Yorkshire Ambulance service confirmed that they attended the incident and that the driver was taken to York Hospital.

One Elvington parent whose children attend the school said: “I heard that a guy had a seizure.

"He may have just totally lost control.

"Luckily no one was around. It happened around 7.40am and the Breakfast Club starts at 7.45am to 7.50am.

"It’s potentially where kids could have been walking but usually they get dropped off for Breakfast Club.

“The police were there and had cordoned off the playground. The car is just next to a tree so it could potentially have been a much worse situation.”

Andre Granger, from Beck Close, Elvington, said:"I drove past at around 9am and saw the car in the hedge.

"It seems to have gone over a footpath before it crashed."

A spokesperson for City of York Council said: “Thankfully no pupils were injured during today’s incident and the school opened as normal this morning. We would like to thank the police and ambulance service for their response.”
