CITY Screen, York is celebrating the Christmas season with a festive film line-up of "Yuletide classics, a sparkling sing-along and a must-see preview".

Marketing manager Dave Taylor says: "Before Christmas, we have a preview of Stan & Ollie, which will be released in the New Year, as well as some perennial favourites – and don’t forget that you can give your family and friends a gift that lasts all year round with an annual City Screen membership, with all the benefits that brings."

Macaulay Culkin is where else but Home Alone (15) again tonight at 8.30pm; Bruce Willis's vest will be defying the blizzards once more in Die Hard (15) on Friday at 8.30pm; Michael Caine plays Ebenezer Scrooge in The Muppet Christmas Carol (U) on Sunday at 12 noon and Simon Callow stars in A Christmas Carol (PG) on December 12 at 7pm.

CBeebies' Thumbelina Christmas Show (U) is booked in for December 15 at 11am; The Greatest Showman Sing-along (PG), December 16, 3pm, and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (PG), December 19, 8.30pm.

The Stan & Ollie (PG) preview will be shown on December 22 at 8.40pm, complemented by Laurel & Hardy's 1932 short film, The Music Box. Steve Coogan plays Stan Laurel and John C Reilly, Oliver Hardy in Jon S Baird's comedy-drama, set in 1953 when the beloved but ageing comedy duo set out to perform live shows. Although the tour is a hit – visiting the SS Empire theatre in York in 1954, by the way – long-buried tensions and Hardy's failing health start to threaten their revived act and friendship.

The season will be completed by Bolshoi Ballet's The Nutcracker, Live 2018 (PG), screened by satellite on December 23 at 4pm, and the obligatory Christmas Eve showing of James Stewart in It's A Wonderful Life (U) at 5.45pm.

Tickets are on sale on 0871 902 5747, at picturehouses.com or in person from the Coney Street Picturehouse.
