THIS was the deserted scene at York Railway Station this afternoon after it was evacuated in the wake of a massive power cut.

Passengers on trains in and out of York faced massive delays and disruption, with station operator LNER saying trains were unable to call at the station and trains running through it were delayed by up to 30 minutes.

It said LNER customers travelling southbound from Scotland / Newcastle to York had to change at Darlington, while customers travelling north from London Kings Cross to York had to change at Doncaster.

It said rail replacement buses were on their way to Darlington and Doncaster and would operate to and from York.

It said Northern services on the York to Harrogate line would terminate at Poppleton, services to York from Leeds would terminate at Church Fenton and services from Hull would terminate at Selby.

It said passengers travelling to York via TransPennine Express were being advised to alight at one of the stations, Leeds, Darlington, Malton, Northallerton, for replacement road transportation, which was currently being sourced.
