POLICE are investigating an incident at a York City match last month in which a fan confronted coaching staff.
North Yorkshire Police said its football liaison officers had been working closely with the club in regard to the incident, which happened at a Vanarama National League North game at Altrincham FC on November 17.
A force spokesman said a fan attempted to run onto the pitch and allegedly made verbal threats towards City staff.
He said inquiries were currently being made into the matter, adding: "We will continue to work closely with York City FC to ensure the safety of all who attend to watch the game and those who represent the club.
"Any verbal or physical threats made within or outside of the grounds will be taken seriously and dealt with appropriately."
The force's comments were included in a club statement, which reminded supporters that aggressive behaviour towards staff, management, or players would not be tolerated.
It said it also wanted to remind fans that pitch encroachment was both a breach of ground regulations and an offence under the Football (Offences) Act 1991.
*The match against Altrincham saw York lose 3-0 and slump into the National League North’s bottom six, just three points above the relegation zone.
