THREE men who were arrested in connection with a high-speed car chase through York have been released under investigation.

It followed what North Yorkshire Police call a 'two-in-one' burglary at a flat in St James Croft in York between 9pm and midnight on Saturday.

The force said the flat was entered and keys were taken for a white BMW 3 Series and a silver and black Audi TT, adding that the owner alerted the police shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Local officers spotted the stolen Audi at Poppleton at about 1.15am and it failed to stop for the police as it headed along the A1237 past Clifton Moor and onto New Earswick, the force added.

On social media, a police spokesman said the chase, which is understood to have reached speeds of 100mph on the A1237, was “brought to a successful conclusion” by the Road Crime team and the Road Policing Group.

The car was abandoned at Birch Park car park in Huntington.

Three people were arrested at around 1.40am, according to North Yorkshire Police.

A 26-year-old man, from Northallerton, a 24-year-old man, from York, and a 23-year-old man, of no fixed address, were arrested and have been released under investigation while inquiries continue, the force said.

It also said the stolen BMW 3 Series was found abandoned on Sandown Close in York on Sunday morning.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident are asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101.
