YORK Central MP Rachael Maskell is inviting local residents to a series of three public meetings this weekend, which she is holding to discuss the challenges surrounding Brexit.

The MP has organised two meetings on Saturday. The first is at 10am in Clement’s Hall, on Nunthorpe Road, and the second meeting is at 2.30pm in Holy Trinity Church, Heworth. The third meeting is on Sunday at the Gateway Church, Acomb, starting at 4pm. To attend one of the meetings phone 01904 623713 or email Rachael.Maskell.MP@parliament.uk to reserve a place.

Ms Maskell hopes as many people as possible will attend the meetings to share their views on Brexit with her.

She says she wants to talk through the real challenges and complexities facing the country with each option that could proceed on Brexit from here.

Ms Maskell commented: “Brexit has deeply divided our country and there is clearly a need to move forward. Whether people have voted to leave or to remain we now need to act in the best interests of our country and bring people together again. It is just one week until the crucial vote in Westminster on Theresa May’s deal and this seems to be a deal that is the worst of all worlds, leaving us no leverage for future negotiations while still giving us uncertainty over future trade arrangements and over a possible border between the island of Ireland and Great Britain.

“I want to listen to everyone’s views on how to achieve a way forward, and for us all to listen to each other as to what is the best political sequencing to achieve the outcomes we seek to provide the best future we can.”
