AS someone who lives just off Micklegate I regularly drive through the Bar, and its closure will inconvenience me and my family.
We experienced this last year, when it was temporarily closed for refurbishment, and we were forced to find other routes out of the city.
However, the impact of that closure on ‘The Great Street’ was dramatic.
It became a much more pleasant environment - a place to stroll and enjoy, rather than rush through.
Traders have worked hard to improve the street in recent years.
During last year’s closure they informed me that footfall was up, and that business improved.
All of which makes me think that the inconvenience of not being able to drive through the historic Micklegate Bar is a price worth paying.
