A DROP-IN event is being held for people to view plans to improve flood defences in York.

As part of the £45 million York Flood Alleviation Scheme, the Environment Agency plans to improve flood protection in Clifton and Rawcliffe.

The investment will be used to raise the height of the existing embankment at Clifton Ings and Rawcliffe Meadow.

The agency will also widen the footprint of the embankment in order to reduce the angle of the slope on the river side, reducing the risk of bank slippage in the future.

Funding will also go towards installing a new pumping station within the embankment to control water levels in Blue Beck storage lagoon.

The planned work will help protect 140 properties. However, the 2.3 million cubic metres of water the area stores helps alleviate flood risk to many more properties.

Environment Agency staff will be on hand to answers questions when the plans go on show from 2pm to 7pm on Monday, December 3, at York Sports Centre in Shipton Road.
